Do you want clear, healthy, glowing skin? START HERE: Skincare Basics At Home Part 1

Posted by Lindsay Eberhart

We all want clear, healthy glowing skin, right? Of course we do. It's the number one reason dozens of clients come to see me monthly.

Professional treatments are absolutely important to the overall health and appearance of your skin but...

achieving the lasting results you crave is a synergistic approach that also includes you skincare home regimen.

You wouldn't go to the dentist for a regular cleaning only to come home and never brush or floss, right? (Well, maybe I'm guilty of occasionally skipping flossing but you get the point.)

All too often I see people using products that are not right for their skin. My goal is to educate you to get you on the right home care products for your skin so you can get on a path to achieving the skin you want and deserve. Let's begin.

-----------------LET'S TALK HOMECARE BASICS-----------------

If you like to skim, we are talking about CLEANSING here.

CLEANSING - Girl, wash your face. (No, I haven't read the book but I like the title because it's true. This also applies to men.) CLEANSING is the cornerstone of your skincare routine. None of your precious serums or creams can penetrate dirty skin so you're wasting you money on products if you aren't starting with a clean canvas. You need to be DOUBLE CLEANSING in the evening. Here's why:

•Double cleansing means thoroughly cleansing your skin once and repeating the process a second time, often with a second cleansing product.

•We double cleanse because most of us are wearing makeup and/or sunscreen daily and we want to really make sure we get your skin clean before you apply your evening products. Remember that cleaner skin = better product penetration and more results for you. This does not mean you need to aggressively scrub, this means DO NOT GO TO BED WITHOUT CLEANSING :)

•In the evening, begin by cleansing first with an oil-based or creamy cleanser. Massage for about 60 seconds. Use gentle pressure like in my video here. This will grab on to and remove your sunscreen and makeup plus some dirt and oil. I like to use a soft face cloth in warm water to remove this.

•Follow this with a second cleanse using a skin-specific cleanser such as a gel or gel-cream, catered to your skin concerns and preferences. Take your time and enjoy the moment of self-care. Aim for 60 seconds of gentle facial cleansing. Makeup wipes do not count here.

•Rinse well and *gently* pat your skin dry.

•You do not need to double-cleanse again in the morning. You can simply cleanse once, or just use water and move to your next step, depending on your skin’s needs.
